SECRET ROOMS – Africa
site specific
SECRET ROOMS – Coreografie dell’abitare is a program of site specific interventions of a choreographic and installation nature born on the occasion of the Anno Europeo del Patrimonio 2018 with the aim of reflecting on the condition of contemporary living. During the appointments, artists from different disciplines will be invited to collaborate with the choreographers and to inject their gaze and their action into the installation and choreographic environments of the project, in dialogue with the place, to further enhance the attractive potential of the historical and artistic heritage through the languages of the contemporary.
The first of the five choreographic episodes of the cycle SECRET ROOMS, Africa, develops in the exhibition AFRICAAFRICA, an initiative by Palazzo Litta Cultura that offers a current analysis of African society moving away from the stereotypes and obsolete imagery of the needy and defenseless continent. SECRET ROOMS – Africa fits into this context by activating unprecedented itineraries for viewing the exhibition: through the creation of choreographic rooms, visitors are invited to experience a space of discovery, crossing and immersion, actively responding to the demands of the place and the performers. The choreography is here conceived as a platform of actions, gestures and thought on the relationship between the environment and the choreographic space.
The habitat and economic sustainability are part of the production philosophy of the project which aims to create a place of relationship through dance and its eternal change and becoming. Africa born as an invitation to welcome, an act of hospitality, a solicitation to stay and cross the rooms of the exhibition and of Palazzo Litta, creating a space of relationship and immersing oneself, through the domestic dimension characterized by design, in unexplored aspects of the representation of Contemporary Africa.
